Julie Fuimano, RN, MBA, CSAC

Many people coming online and deciding to sell affiliate products never sell a single product. The reason is glaringly obvious and it's not the unfortunate affiliate marketer's fault. Think about any job that you've ever held in the offline world. Depending upon the job, you spent weeks, sometimes even months, with a trainer guiding you and looking over your shoulder. Compare that with your typical affiliate program that the complete newbie can join.
Becoming an online marketer is not hard but if you're just starting out, there can be some serious obstacles in your way. Do you know them? Let a seasoned online marketer give you some pointers on how to begin and some reasons why many online marketers fail.

When starting a new business you will hear a lot about budgeting. You will learn how to write a budget based on the anticipated amount of income on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. How good your budgeting plan will depend on how disciplined you are in sticking to the established amount you have dedicated to every item in your budget. But many businesses fail due to their lack of action when one piece of their budget doesn't fit together to form the perfect picture of their business.

I have a lot of favorite authors but one that tends to spark a welcome wave of inspiration and renewal every time I read his work is Rumi. Though his original works were written in Persian, they have also been translated into other languages and are still enjoyed by people in many countries today, even seven centuries after his death! Such timeless writings hold true gems of wisdom that we can rediscover and savor each time we ponder them.
A competency model is a description of skills, knowledge and behaviors needed to perform a job or set of jobs effectively. Given the rate at which business needs change, competency models are important because job descriptions and performance expectations can become quickly outdated.
