FAST FACT:

In recent TV commercials, the Ford Motor Company is touting the idea that their cars now have the same high quality workmanship as Toyota cars and trucks. This may rank as one of the worst marketing ideas Ford has had since the Edsel. Why would any company state that they finally have achieved the same quality as its major rival? Is it not the idea to leapfrog beyond your competition?

And what does that say to those millions of Ford car and truck owners? That your vehicle simply does not meet the standards of Toyota? If the best a company can do is to match the competition, it doesn’t sound like they are achieving much at all.

5 Sure Fire Ways to Keep Your Small Business from Growing

Stone Payton

Contrary to popular opinion, it simply isn't true that "if you keep doing what you've been doing, you'll keep getting what you've been getting", at least not in the world of small business marketing. If it were true, many of us could have put our organizations on "auto pilot" some years ago. In the volatile world of small business marketing, if you keep doing only what you've been doing, you'll actually get less, a lot less.

Building Self-Confidence for a Lifetime of Achievement

Forcing Your Goals versus Empowering Your Dreams

Thomas Herold

Many people understand the concept of setting goals in life. What most people don't know is that goals require a constant stream of force behind them to keep them alive. You need to push them all the time to make them come true. What do I mean by force and push? To force something is to compel through pressure or necessity. To push a goal is to apply enough force to the goal to keep it fresh and empowered.

Overcoming Self-Doubt

Julie Fuimano, RN, MBA, CSAC

Everyone experiences self-doubt at some point in his or her life. For many people, self-doubt can be pervasive, even crippling. It can impact your relationships. It destroys confidence. It causes procrastination or lack of effort. It can be extremely frustrating to live with the reverberating voice in your head telling you you’re not good enough or to have whatever you might want.

FAST FACT:

Which 2008 presidential candidate said this about the current energy crisis? The United States faces a fundamental threat to American democracy and a crisis of confidence. The energy crisis gripping the nation threatens the very security of our nation.

Actually neither current candidate has expressed the energy crisis in those words; it was President Jimmy Carter in 1979. Gas price at that time was 90 cents a gallon ($2.69 in today’s dollars). Part of the issue then as it is now, is the control of oil producers over the energy markets. These countries, mostly totalitarian in nature, can artificially create a crisis by simply stating it may slow down production. With the US importing 60 percent of its oil to meet energy needs that supports the economy and culture, withholding oil according to Carter is the “moral equivalent of war.” Unfortunately almost 30 years later the US still has no formidable alternative energy policy.
