Three Blogging Tips

Peter Nisbet

Bad blogging habits are easy to get into and one of the worst is to leave your “About” page unchanged. A whole host of bloggers leave it unchanged. Why they do this is known only to them, because this is the first page that a large number of first-time visitors to a blog check out and the reason why many of them leave without looking further.

3 Types of Websites: Which Ones Are Right for You?

Terry Dean

I'm sure you've heard multiple gurus tell you there is only one right way to do business online. They're wrong. There also isn't just one way to design your website. Let's eliminate some of the confusion and point out 3 of the ways you might design a site for maximum response.

Bandwidth: When Is It Enough?

Ricardo D’Argence

If you have a website, one of the most important things you need to know about is bandwidth. Basically, bandwidth is the amount of data you can transfer at one time. When you have less bandwidth, your site takes longer to load regardless of what connection your visitors have. With more visitors, each visitor is going to have to wait his or her turn if you don't have enough bandwidth to accommodate everyone.

Blogging as a New Millennium Newsletter

Scott Lindsay

Blogging is essentially the 21st century equivalent of a newsletter. The good news is there are significant advantages to blogging over a newsletter. One of the first advantages is that a blog does not require printing, which can save on costs associated with paper, printing and postage.

FAST FACTS:

1) Efforts to raise national averages on standardized tests will have no impact on closing the achievement gaps. Doing well on these tests rarely have any connection to successful employment or as preparation for entering the workforce. Many colleges and universities are eliminating standardized tests as a significant part of their admissions protocols.

2) The average US household now spends over $600 per year on cell phone services. At age 13, 54% have cell phones and by age 17, 79% have cell phones. According to Jupiter Research, only 17% of teens say they use cell phones for voice-only communications.

3) In the US, 13 million children or 18% of the child population are without food or at risk of hunger according to America’s Second Harvest. The USDA reports that 35.5 million people or 12% of US residents were “food insecure.” Single mothers and their children were the most likely to face hunger. According to the Food Research and Action Center, the number of “food insecure” people will rise because of higher fuel and energy prices.

It is one of the supreme ironies of the Internet that the computer, so long derided as impersonal, is now being used to create highly personal experiences for Web site visitors. Because a computer can sift through vast amounts of existing information according to pre-programmed rules, computers can now take company information, combine it with information supplied by prospective customers and digest it in a way that is meaningful to each individual. Although many of these methods are still in their infancy, a great deal can be gleaned as to techniques and strategies that can be implemented.
