In baseball, it's said that you know an umpire is top-notch when you never notice his presence. If he's doing his job, he won't call attention to himself in any way. It's much the same for the writer of a press release. When the recipient of a press release focuses only on its content and not on its creation, the writer has succeeded. When starting their first home based business adventure, people almost always suffer from information overload in the early stages. I often refer to this as the "taking a drink from a fire hose syndrome".
If you are considering an online business, there are many benefits. You have the potential to reach a vast amount of users and you can market to them at a fraction of traditional advertising. In North America alone, based on 2007 statistics, approximately 234 million people or 70% of the population are Internet surfers.
It's vital that you address and overcome a series of resistance points on your way to establishing a customer. Your obstacles are:
1. No TRUST on the part of your visitor
2. No NEED for what you have
3. No perception that you can HELP them
4. No HURRY to act (make contact or purchase)
Are you skeptical by nature? Do you believe anything someone will tell you as long as they are willing to put it in writing? Do you read your junk mail before tossing it out? If you are in a leadership role but lack some of the essential people handling abilities, you will harm your position. A few minor changes in your people skills can make a huge impact on your leadership ability. Every leader must have these 3 people skills.
