Attitude Is Everything
Gary M. Miller
Whoever said that "attitude is everything" must have been joking right? What do they mean "attitude is everything"? Don't they see that life has its limitations and there are only certain things you can do according to the laws of nature? This, unfortunately, was a bit of a mistake. If you are one of the many thousands of people looking for a new job, here are some tips for you to consider:
1) Create a new and unique email address before you start submitting information to online job centers such as CareerBuilder or Monster. Because you will want to keep your résumé and other background information public, you’ll be deluged with spam. You’ll also get tempting phishing emails trying to lure you to give criminals your sensitive information.
2) Be prepared to be bombarded with schemes and nearly illegal offers to make “instant money.” Here are your litmus test questions:
>>If “xyz” is such a good idea why are there so many people ignoring this opportunity and still struggling to pay their bills?
>>Why aren’t tens of thousands of people taking advantage of this “wonderful” opportunity?
>>Is every member of your family (the person asking you to join) doing this program?
3) Finally, when writing your résumé, consider these points:
>>Focus on your talents, skills and competencies
>>Use recent successful examples to illustrate your talents, skills and competencies
>>List your accomplishments and any testimonials from people you helped
>>List your career “victories”
Finally, list the usual information such as employers, education, certificates, continuing education and other persons you plan to use as references.
