The most important process of setting up any type of pay-per-click advertisement is putting together an appealing and unique advertisement. You'll decide to either market to a list or not. And I know that some marketers just don't want to be bothered with list generation, for a variety of reasons. That's fine. AUGUST MUSINGS
On the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the host regularly has a segment called “Jaywalking.” The host swears that none of the interviews are staged; he randomly picks people where he is standing. Leno then proceeds to ask questions about government, history or special events.
If you have ever seen this segment, you must be astounded by how clueless people are about basic knowledge. People don’t know when the Civil War occurred, who is the Speaker of the House or when Columbus discovered America. The Pew Research Center recently asked 18-29 year olds to identify by name the current Secretary of State. Only 26% knew the answer: Condoleezza Rice.
There are many reasons to hope that the newspaper industry will survive. Newspapers keep us current; reporters do the leg work that provides insight. Parents and schools need to insist that kids read newspapers every day.
Blogs and bloggers would be lost without newspapers. The majority of blogs are just re-hashing items that have appeared in a newspaper. Comedy writers like the people on Leno’s show or The Daily Show depend on newspapers and the hundreds of reporters that write the columns.
Americans at all ages are becoming less informed because of their dependence on TV sound bites and news that has been filtered by second and third tier writers with personal agendas. The real sadness of “dumbing down” means we are less capable to spot “BS.”
